Persistent Television is Awesome

One of the great joys of this modern world is the ability to discover cool video that isn't perfectly current.

For example, I had heard about Craig Ferguson, but hadn't watched any of his standup or late night content until this morning. It turns out that he's great, as seen in this bit about the tawdry cycle of building up and tearing down celebrities. I have many hours of great discovery of the works of a thoughtful, funny essayist.

What gives me pause about this isn't that I learned about something new, it's that it was television that was originally broadcast a couple of years ago. We've always had access to earlier works of film (rentals), books (libraries), and art (museums). With the internet, you have access to a good deal of television as well, which was formerly relegated to the transmit-receive(-record-watch) method of enjoyment.
